Free Milwaukee Job Fair Comes to Brookfield on October 28

BROOKFIELD, WI — The next open-to-everyone Milwaukee job fair is not downtown and it is not at a job center. It is a hotel ballroom off South Moorland Road, two and a half hours on a Wednesday morning, and it costs nothing to walk through the door.

What This One Actually Is
This is a multi-employer fair, not a single-company recruitment. Catalyst Career Group is an event organizer: it rents the room and the companies come to it. So expect breadth, not depth. You get a run of tables, a chance to hand a resume to an actual human being, and about 150 minutes to work it. The organizer pitches it as employers hiring across the Milwaukee area, spanning entry level through management.
It is a different event from the ones on our fall 2026 Milwaukee job fairs guide, which tracks the Employ Milwaukee, MATC and city library fairs. Different organizer, different day, different room. If October 28 does not work, that calendar runs into December.
⚠️ The Employer List Is Not Out Yet
As of publication the organizer has not released the list of attending companies. Its own event page says to check back about 48 hours out for the roster. That is standard for this format and it is not a red flag, but it does mean nobody, us included, can tell you today whether your industry will be in that ballroom.
So do not plan the morning on faith. Pull up the organizer's event page on Monday, October 26, and read the list. Thin in your field, you saved yourself a drive. Deep, and you walk in knowing which three tables you hit first.
💼 Where Milwaukee Hiring Is Actually Moving
A general fair rewards people who know which way the wind is blowing. Federal figures for the Milwaukee-Waukesha metro put unemployment at 3.8 percent in July 2026, preliminary, on about 862,000 nonfarm jobs. Total payrolls were flat year over year, down a tenth of a percent, but that average hides the story.
Construction was up 3.2 percent over the year. Government rose 1.6 percent, professional and business services 1.3 percent, and manufacturing and the education and health group 0.4 percent each. Pulling the other way: information down 6.5 percent, trade and transportation down 2.1 percent, leisure and hospitality down 1.6 percent.
Translation for a Wednesday in Brookfield: the tables staffed with real urgency will be in the growing columns. Trades experience, a clinical credential, a manufacturing background or a portable office skill set all play well here. Coming out of retail, warehousing or hospitality, go anyway, but go with a wider target list than you would have needed two years ago.
📋 How to Show Up Ready
- Register in advance. The Eventbrite ticket is free and it puts you on the list for the employer roster when it drops. The organizer does not publish a walk-in policy, so registering removes the question.
- Bring more resumes than you think you need. A dozen printed copies, minimum. Nobody at a table wants to look at your phone.
- Be there at ten. A 150-minute fair is front-loaded. Recruiters are freshest in the first hour and the last twenty minutes of any fair are the thinnest.
- Have a thirty-second opener. What you do, what you are looking for, what you are good at. Practiced, not memorized.
- Dress like the job. Business casual is the floor at a hotel fair, and it costs you nothing to be the sharpest person in line.
- Ask for the next step by name. Not "is there anything open," but "what does the interview process look like and who follows up." Write down the name.
🗺️ Getting There
The Embassy Suites sits at 1200 S. Moorland Rd., just off the Moorland corridor south of I-94 and about half a mile from Brookfield Square. Surface parking at the hotel is complimentary, which is not nothing when you are stretching a job search budget. Coming from downtown or the north side, leave margin for the westbound run; coming up from Racine or Kenosha, it is a straight shot on I-94. Call the hotel at (262) 782-2900 that morning if you want to confirm the room before you hit the lobby.

Forty-five days is a long time to wait on one morning. Treat the fair as one lead in a wider push, not the plan. The west and southwest suburbs carry a heavy concentration of manufacturing, medical device, insurance and professional services work, and openings post there every week.
